Stina Pedersen explores what captures our attention and why certain moments linger, while others pass unnoticed.

“Fragments from a Diary began as an experiment: for one month, I painted one painting a day. Each painting was based on something that had stayed with me from that particular day. It could be a moment, a place, an encounter or a situation. Sometimes the images were painted directly from reality, sometimes they were based on a reference photo taken in the moment, sometimes on something symbolic of the day, and sometimes on something I remembered and recreated freely from memory. In this way, the 31 paintings became a visual diary of what I had chosen to see.”

For the exhibition at Nalen Restaurant, the project takes on a new form. Using the original paintings as a starting point, Stina paints fragments from them onto larger canvases. Details that were previously small parts of a whole are now given space to stand alone as individual motifs.

Stina Pedersen is based in Stockholm and primarily works with painting. She has a background in art and crafts education from Nyckelviksskolan and has previously studied art history at Stockholm University as well as art at Metàfora Studio Arts in Barcelona. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions, including at Galleri Killgissa, La Galería by Lastcrit (Barcelona), Galleri Bellman, Lidingö Church and Kulturhuset Sergels torg. She has also previously exhibited at Nalen Restaurant as part of an exhibition by Hjertha Kollektiv. Alongside her artistic practice, she works as a museum host at Thielska Gallery and teaches creative arts at Södergården.

On Thursday, 8 October, from 5–7 pm, there will be a vernissage for Stina Pedersen’s exhibition Fragment at Nalen Restaurant. The exhibition will remain on display throughout October and November.
