Extra concert with Merit Hemmingson following popular album release
Swedish folk music icon comes to Nalen
Merit Hemmingson will play an extra concert in Stora Salen at Nalen on Sunday 6 December, after the September release of Pekkos Per å Jag had ticket buyers dancing the tokpolska. On Saturday 5 December and Sunday 6 December, the legendary composer, arranger, organist and singer will take to the stage at Nalen together with her band.
Merit Hemmingson is a composer, arranger, organist and singer from Jämtland, Sweden. She has devoted her life to exploring and constructing her own musical landscape, bending and challenging genres in ways that have often sent ripples through Swedish music. Since the 1960s, her distinctive expression has carved out a unique place in Swedish music history, where jazz, groove rock and, above all, folk music meet.
This autumn, Merit Hemmingson is touring with her band following the release of the album Pekkos Per å Jag. On 5 and 6 December, she comes to Stora Salen at Nalen, with the second night added as an extra concert.
Pekkos Per from Bingsjö in Dalarna, 1807–1877, is a mythical figure in Swedish folk music. For Merit Hemmingson, he has long been a constant source of inspiration. She has now recorded selections from his repertoire in new interpretations that are at once clear and familiar, swirling, inspired and exploratory.
“Pekkos Per from Bingsjö in Dalarna has always been one of the absolute heavyweights of Swedish folk music for me,” says Merit Hemmingson. “Many of his tunes move between both major and minor keys, which I find both tricky and exciting. The tunes have mostly been played by fiddlers, but here I want to present them in a different and unconventional way on my favourite instrument, the Hammond B3.”

The album Pekkos Per å Jag was released in September via Supertraditional Records and recorded at Sandkvie Studio on Gotland with musicians including Juan Romero, Sara Parkman, Mats Edén, Ola Winkler and Mattias Bärjed, and produced by Anton Sundell.
