Mariam Wallentin is an artist with a big heart, as thoughtful as she is musically bold. An Alice Coltrane for our time. Spirituality meets music that makes us feel and think. With musical roots in both improvisation, pop and soul, Wallentin’s career has crossed a wide range of multifaceted territories. She is one half of Wildbirds & Peacedrums and one of the creative forces behind the jazz collective Fire! Orchestra. She has worked with bands such as Deerhoof and Konono No. 1, as well as with choirs, string ensembles and symphony orchestras. She has sung for Björk and appeared in experimental operas by noise musician Ben Frost, as well as in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Angel’s Bone at English National Opera. Her musical collaborations include Damien Rice and Leslie Feist. She has won both the Manifest and Jazzkatten awards and has been nominated for a Grammis several times.

With her uncompromising approach to music, Wallentin launched her project Mariam The Believer in 2012, creating a space to channel her artistic expression into a more pop-oriented project. Mariam The Believer has released three acclaimed full-length albums on her own label, Repeat Until Death. She is currently working on an ongoing series of EPs called Instant Creativity. Her fifth EP, The Wishing Well EP 2, has now been recorded and is soon ready for release.

The EP features music from Wallentin’s stage performance of the same name, exploring longing, the fragile moments of life and the ever-evolving nature of existence. On record, the music is performed by five voices and synthesizers. Pop music meets improvisation in a poetic flow. On stage tonight, it takes on an especially intimate and immediate form: one singer, one musician, one here and now.
